Information
We’ve been through intimidation, shifted to inspiration, turned the key of ignition and today we're discussing information.
I asked you find what inspired you.
In the last post I asked you to figure out if you were writing fiction or non-fiction.
Now we’re moving to information.
Why? Why information now?
Shouldn’t you know what you’re writing about? Shouldn't you have that information already?
The truth is when we are handed a writing assignment or get inspired to write about something you are going to need information.
Information is a currency. Its what gives your words value.
This is why dodging questions is political strategy. If the speaker can make it sound like you’re being giving information and answers, but really gives a soundbite or a circling mish mash of tossed world salad - they’ve succeeded in bankrupting the question and its ultimately disrespectful to those who want to know the answer, because if information is currency - they justed handed you a counterfeit vocabulary.
Information also helps you know what is expected of your project’s goals and audience. If your boss wants a brochere, the writing is going to be very different from a disaster prepardness plan. They’re both non-fiction - but the expectation and the content are nothing like each other.
For both fiction and non-fiction information helps answer the five Ws and How…
The Five ‘W’s are
1. Who
2. What
3. When
4. Where
5. Why
…and How
These questions are going to help you format your content. And content is information. The better you can present your content, the more successful your writing will be.
The Five ‘W’s and How will be part of our topic for next week… Implementation.
Your stories are amazing! If you’re not already writing them down, that’s next week's action!
Till Tuesday!
